In the frame of discussion: On Children's Autonomy, Utopias, and the Future of Education

    Saturday, June 14, 14:00–16:00

"As part of the Artists After School exhibition, we invite you to a discussion focused on children's autonomy and their role in society. The starting point will be recently discovered and recently published book The Unpredictable Past of the Future: The Political Potential of Utopia, including rare example of educational children socio-utopain science-fiction novel from 1924/25,written by an anonymous girl under the pseudonym Little Zora (Little Dawn). Living with her parents in Belgrade during the repressive Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Zora dreams of a school of the future — where she drives an electric car, food is free for all at school, and education is shared through aesthetics and collectivity.

The text, written in 1924–1925, was originally published in Budućnost (Future), a communist children's magazine intended for the “children of organized workers” in Belgrade. The book was recently rediscovered by Dr. Biljana Andonovska of the Institute of Literature and Art in Belgrade and published by samizdat Edicija Jugoslavija, edited by Ivana Momcilovic. This discussion will also serve as the book’s Czech premiere and will explore themes of upbringing, education, and the political autonomy of children in society.

    Guests:
Ivana Momčilović – editor of the book, dramaturge, poet, and researcher
Karina Kottová – curator working long-term on themes of care and education
Barbora Šimková – artist and founder of the Ateliér Děti (Children’s Studio) at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague
Tadeáš Polák – artist and educator who leads the children's group Mothers Artlovers
Klára Bělíčková – university student and climate activist, former spokesperson for the FFF movement, now part of the Re-set platform and host of the Moshpit podcast.
Representatives of Fridays for Future – because we cannot talk about a new generation without including their voices.

The discussion will open a space to share experiences, visions, and utopian ideas of education rooted both in historical materials and current practice. Educators, parents, artists, and children are all warmly welcome.

The discussion will be held in Czech.

This event is organized in collaboration with Romana Bartůňková, curator of the Do You Have Artistic Vein? (Máš umělecké střevo?) educational program, and Tereza Stejskalová, director of Tranzit.cz.
A workshop led by Fridays for Future will follow the discussion, focusing on the creation and preparation of a public demonstration.< br/> The program is coorganized by Trade Centre Praha."
